Vital Signs Giving Guide in today’s Globe and Mail

The Vital Signs Giving Guide is here! It appears today in the Globe and Mail‘s Life section, so be sure to pick up your copy or download our Giving Guide PDF now.

It explores in more depth Canada’s Vital Signs findings around obesity: about 1 in 4 adults and 1 in 11 children are obese, according to the most recent statistics, despite a decade of better food labeling, healthier food options in schools, reduced amounts of trans fats in our food supply and tax incentives to promote physical activity.

The Giving Guide is also a chance to explore charitable-giving options, offering a valuable catalyst for families, friends and colleagues to discuss and plan year-end charitable giving.

It does this, in part, by highlighting impact stories from six of our local foundations: community investing in Hamilton; an obesity-awareness campaign in Medicine Hat; a donor guided by Vital Signs in Waterloo; a preschool for Aboriginal youngsters in Victoria; a teen pregnancy social marketing campaign in Saint John; an RESP access initiative in Wolfville; and a program that helps at-risk students in Montreal.

They are all terrific programs and projects that illustrate the power of Vital Signs. We know there are more – if you have a story you’d like to share, please contact Skana Gee at sgee@cfc-fcc.ca.

Community Foundations of Canada’s 2011 Giving Guide is sponsored by Webber Naturals, which produces a wide range of natural health products available in neighbourhood pharmacies, grocery stores and other retailers across Canada and the U.S.
